December 5, 2008. Kelly and Jack review the Championship win against Taylor.

Hundreds of fans and friends attended the first ever review of the Pavlik/Taylor I. On stage, a round by round analysis was discussed by Kelly Pavlik, Jack Loew, WFMJ's Sports Director Dana Balash & Youngstown Stalwart Harry Meshel. Afterwards, Pavlik & Loew signed autographs and took photos with many of those in attendance.

November 22, 2008. Buckcherry and Avenged Sevenfold at Chevy Centre.

Kelly and Samantha Pavlik & friends were invited back stage prior to the Buckcherry and Avenged Sevenfold Concert. They met with the bands and exchanged autographed items. During the concert Josh Todd called Kelly on stage to say hello to Youngstown. The Pavliks have been the guests of renowned bands such as Buckcherry, The Foo Fighters and Korn. November 22, 2008. BuckCherry trains with Kelly.

BuckCherry band members Stevie D. Dacanay, Josh Todd and their security chief Dan Abell joined Kelly Pavlik at SouthSide Boxing Club at 10 a.m. Todd is avid about boxing and trains daily. He's knowledgeable about the sport and admires Kelly's style in the ring. “I am a big fight fan and work out daily, so I cannot thank Kelly enough for taking the time out of his busy schedule to not only work out with us, but lend some valuable ring pointers as well. He’s a fantastic boxer with plenty of knockout power and is someone who has the skills to pay the bills,” Todd said. “More so, I love his story and what he had to do in order to get to where he is today.”

The National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame honored Kelly as the Athlete of the Year. Kelly and his father Michael attended the 31st annual Induction and Awards Gala in Chicago Illinois.

October 20, 2008. Team Pavlik back Home.

Team Pavlik is back home after a tough decision loss to Bernard Hopkins in a Lightheavyweight Fight. Middleweight King Kelly Pavlik didn't have his usual strength, snap or punch volume while Hopkins was at his absolute best. Hopkins' legendary status boasts a 20 year resume with his most significant wins coming in recent years. At 37 he was the first to KO and defeat Felix Trinidad. At 39 he was the first to KO Oscar De La Hoya. At 41 he was the first to convincingly defeat Lightheavyweight Champ Antonio Tarver. At 42 he was the first to convincingly defeat Ronald "Winky" Wright. Earlier in his career he was the first to defeat Glen Johnson and the first to KO or convincingly defeat numerous #1 contenders during his 10 year reign as Middleweight King. One of Hopkins' current trainers, John David Jackson, was a former KO victim. Hopkins' has never been KO'ed and has only lost 2 matches by unanimous decision in his 20 year career (Against Roy Jones and against Jermain Taylor). Hopkins is an enigma because his strategy has evolved with age and has earned him his greatest victories in recent years. He is a rarity because he's an active boxer and consensus future Hall of Famer. Against Hopkins Team Pavlik knew they had to be at the top of their game. An injured elbow coupled with anti-biotics to treat a case of bronchitis may have diminished Pavlik's strengths. His usual energy, punch volume and snap were non-existent from round one. What appears to have been an off night for Pavlik was a night that Hopkins looked his best. It is noteworthy to mention that Jermain Taylor beat Bernard Hopkins twice and Kelly Pavlik beat Jermain Taylor twice.

October 18, 2009. In Honor of Police and Fire Departments.

Pavlik has carried themes on his boxing trunks including that of Ohio State & Youngstown State to proudly display his state's heritage. In June 2008 he and his corner wore attire in honor of the United States' Armed Forces with emblems of the Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force & Marines. On October 18 Kelly and his team entered the ring in honor of the Men and Women who protect Youngstown -the Police and Fire Departments.

October 17, 2008. Tempers flare at Weigh-in.

Ceasars guards accompany each fighter and their teams to the official scale on stage. The United States flag waving at center in representation of both American fighters. After the weigh-in, Pavlik and Hopkins meet at center stage for the final face to face photo opportunity. Hopkins decides to push his face into Pavliks' face. Pavlik pushes back. Hopkins retreats his physical contact and quickly turns to trash talking with a scold on his face. Pavlik responds in kind, perhaps moreso. What's being said isn't known for sure but what is obvious is that tempers are flaring. Saturday night: a legend who has elevated himself as one of the sport's superstars over the last 2 decades versus an undefeated hometown hero who's only 26 years old but has been boxing for 17 years. Hopkins Vs. Pavlik is just hours away.

October 14, 2008. New York City Pre-fight Press Conference.

NEW YORK CITY: Kelly Pavlik's trainer Jack Loew told the media that his fighter will adopt a "carefully aggressive" approach against Bernard Hopkins on Saturday night. Pavlik squares off against Hopkins in an eagerly-awaited non-title bout at 170lbs in Atlantic City. Consensus future Hall of Famer Hopkins has never been stopped in his career. World Middleweight Champion Pavlik is Undefeated with almost 90% of his matches ending in KO. Hopkins' trainer Nazim Richardson says Pavlik is in for a tough night. Richardson said, "I don't know their game plan, but at the start, Kelly is going to realize he's in there with a legitimate fighter."

October 12, 2008. Champ Runs In Youngstown Peace Race.

"Kelly ran a 10k at a 6 minute a mile pace" -Denny O'Neil, avid runner and Vindicator Marketing Manager.

Thousands of runners gathered in Youngstown today for the 34th annual Youngstown Peace Race. The course took runners from the South Side, through Mill Creek Park, and ended in Downtown Youngstown. We are told more than 12-hundred people participated in todays event, one of those was boxing's middleweight champion of the world, Kelly Pavlik, whose just days away from his next fight.

"WE HAD TO GET ONE MORE DAY OF RUNNING IN, IF THERE WAS ANYWAY TO DO IT, DO IT TODAY....HOW DID YOU DO? .....I THINK I DID PRETTY GOOD, IT'S BETTER THAN I DID TWO YEARS AGO, THIS WAS ONLY MY SECOND TIME. September 29, 2008. One Year As Champ.

A year ago today, Kelly Pavlik captured the Crown when he Knocked Out the Undefeated Undisputed Middleweight Champion, Jermain Taylor. The storied Middleweight Crown has been held by some of boxing's greatest stars including "Sugar" Ray Robinson, Jake "The Raging Bull" Lamotta, "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler and "Sugar" Ray Leonard.

September 7, 2008. Youngstown is Home.

Youngstown is known for producing great collegiate and professional athletes but they end up living in the adopted cities for which they play. As a boxer, Kelly picks the place he trains and lives and it's the same place where he grew up: Youngstown. Many boxers prefer training camps in the Pennsylvania mountains, Miami or Las Vegas, But Pavlik, and his trainer Jack Loew, function best when they are at home. September 5, 2008. 2 weeks of training camp done.

Through the years Kelly has diversified his training regiment to include a variety of stops in any given week. Rocky Taumoepeau of Rocky's Gym, has been working with Kelly on strength and conditioning since Kelly's amateur days in the 90's. Rocky's Gym Website. Another stop on the training circuit includes The Iron Man Warehouse. Athletes use Kegs, fire hoses and sledge hammers along with a long list of other tools. Kelly's conditioning all leads back to his training and sparring sessions at the Southside Boxing Club under the watchful eye of Jack Loew.

August 31st, 2008. Autograph Signing for WKBN with US troops at Canfield Fair.

Kelly joined his friends from the US Armed Forces at the Canfield Fair. Fair attendees had the opportunity to say hello to men and women of our US Armed Forces. Kelly accepts an Appreciation Award from Sgt. 1st Class Mark Hutton of the Army National Guard in recognition of Pavlik's support of the military. Kelly and his parents, Mike and Debbie Pavlik, pose with members of the 583rd Law and Order Detachment and the 838th Military Police Company, both based out of Austintown. August 28th, 2008. Ribbon Cutting. Opening of the Canfield Fair.

Kelly was invited to officially open the 162^nd Annual Canfield Fair. He made some opening comments and cut the ribbon commencing one of the biggest fairs in the country. Kelly’s parents took him to the Canfield Fair yearly for his whole life. This year he was there with them and also his wife and daughter.

August 27th, 2008. Hopkins in Youngstown for Press Conference.

Kelly’s next opponent, Bernard Hopkins visited Youngstown with representatives from Golden Boy Promotions and HBO Pay-Per-View. Kelly’s Promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank Inc. was on hand as were Kelly’s co-managers Cameron Dunkin and Michael Pavlik Senior. Hard hats were given to fans in attendance in with the theme as a blue collar battle between a Philly fighter and a Youngstown fighter. Although the press conference can best be described as polite and respectful the fighters and their teams took the opportunity to establish their intent. Kelly Pavlik said, “I love fighting the best fighters in the world. He’s a legendary fighter and for me to go in there and not only beat him but do it convincingly… that would probably be the biggest accomplishment.” The 43 year old Hopkins was a former Undisputed Middleweight Champion and Light-heavyweight Champion. Jack Loew said, “[Bernard Hopkins] is one of the greatest middleweights, one of the greatest fighters of all times.”

August 25th, 2008. Training camp begins for the Hopkins fight.

Kelly buckles down with strength and conditioning training coupled with his time in the boxing gym. Outside of a few local obligations Kelly is solely focused on training up to 8 hours a day 6 days a week. August 16th, 2008. Pavlik Bobblehead Giveaway at Mahoning Valley Scrappers Game.

The first 1000 fans received a free Kelly Pavlik Bobblehead. Kelly took batting practice on the field as did his brother Michael and corner man Michael Cox. Kelly met with the Scrapper's Manager, former Indians 3rd baseman Travis Fryman. He also met with the team. Wearing a Scrappers jersey with "The Ghost" printed on the back, he played catch on the field before the game.

August 11, 2008. Cancer Society Golf Benefit.

Kelly and his trainer Jack Loew took part in a golf outing to benefit the American Cancer Society.

August 9th, 2008. Softball Slam to benefit United Way. Team Pavlik VS. The Media.

Over 1,000 people packed into Cene Field bleachers to watch Team Media face off against Team Pavlik in a charity softball game. Before the game started Dana Balash did a live interview with Kelly Pavlik and members of Team Media. One member of Team Media got a pie in the face live on television as Kelly’s father Mike snuck up on Vindicator reporter Joe Scalzo.

The game provided some thrills for the audience as Kelly went 3 for 4 on the day. Although Team Media had more runs after 9 innnings, Team Pavlik was able to win the home run derby courtesy of Kelly’s cornerman, Youngstown Police officer Mike Cox. Over $5,000 was raised for the local United Way.

August 6th, 2008. Press Conference in NYC and Philadelphia to announce Pavlik Vs. Hopkins

The press conference to announce Pavlik Vs. Hopkins in NYC turned out to be a discussion of boxing legitimacy. Bernard Hopkins lavishes praise on Kelly Pavlik for his ascent to greatness in the boxing world while Kelly acknowledges the honor of being able to square off against one of the all time greats. August 1st, 2008. 1st Annual Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik Charity Golf Outing to Raise Money for New Childrens' Hospital

A sold out Golf outing that raised in excess of $16,000 for the upcoming Akron Childrens’ Hospital that will be built in Youngstown. Many thanks to the participants and sponsors. It was a wonderful success and Kelly looks forward to doing it again.

July 29, 2008. On the Cover of Ring Magazine

The Ring Magazine was establish in 1922 and the slogan on the website says “The Bible of Boxing”. Having several owners and editors throughout the years it has been a stalwart publication of the world of boxing. The Ring magazine has a ratings panel consisting of 33 journalists from as many publications and boxing news websites. The ratings panel recognizes the King of each division. Kelly Pavlik is universally recognized as the King of the Middleweight Division, subsequently he also gets that recognition from Ring Magazine. He's been on the cover of their monthly publication 4 times in the last year, as well as the cover of their 2008 Almanac.

July 25, 2008. Special Guest at Foo Fighters Concert

Dave Grohl and Chris Shiflett invited Kelly and Samantha as special guests of the band when they played a packed house at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland Ohio. Spontaneously invited on stage Kelly got to do a guitar solo (with assistance from Chris Shiflet). Speaking to the crowd for a few minutes Kelly gave due praise to the one of the best bands in the world. The stalwart chant of O-H-I-O followed. The Foo Fighters are fans of Kelly’s fighting style and Kelly is a huge fan of their music and performances.

July 20th, 2008. The ESPYs air on ESPN. Kelly Nominated for “Fighter of the Year”

Hosted by Justin Timberlake, the program took place on July 16 and aired on ESPN July 20^th. Kelly and Samantha had the opportunity to catch up with several Ohio athletes including current NFL, and former Ohio State linebacker, A.J. Hawk. They got to say hello to several friends and acquaintances from the Ohio sports scene including Cleveland Browns players Braylon Edwards and Brady Quinn.

July 18, 2008. Kelly and Samantha are married in Hawaii.

Kelly and Samatha are married on the island of Oahu. After attending the ESPYs on July 16 in Los Angeles, Kelly and Samantha went to Hawaii to meet their families for the wedding.

July 15, 2008. Launch of the New TeamPavlik.com

July 5th, 2008. Memorial Fund Raiser for Johnny Swanson

Kelly Pavlik honors his friend at a banquet in his memory. Johnny Swanson's family spoke in reflection about Johnny's life as a son and father. They also spoke about the importance of amateur boxing in his life. Kelly's trainer Jack Loew spoke about Johnny's sincerity, work ethic and passion. The event was also a fund raiser to support the boxing pursuits of other young boys and girls of the Southside Boxing Club so that they can reach and achieve as Johnny did.

June 7, 2008. HBO profile: Dante and Kelly.

Kelly was introduced to Dante Delsignore in early 2007. Dante had recently been diagnosed with cancer and was in the midst of regular treatments. Kelly admired Dante's courage and fortitude in his battle against cancer. In the following months they stayed in close contact and drew strength from one another.

June 7th, 2008. In Honor of US Armed Forces Kelly Proudly Wears Their Emblems on His Boxing Trunks.

In honor of the men and women of the Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines and Coast Guard, Kelly wears an originally designed patch of each military branch’s crest. The design is courtesy of nationally renowned Artist Ray Simon.

June 7th, 2008. Pavlik vs. Lockett, Kelly Defends His Middleweight Crown with 3rd Round KO.

Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City. Kelly brings power and accuracy against the World Boxing Organization’s #1 Contender. Lockett lost only once and it was by decision. Kelly became the first person to Knock Out Gary Lockett. Kelly has knocked out every single opponent he has faced since 2004. 6 of his last 7 opponents had never been knocked out. Kelly knocked out all of them.

May 4, 2008. FIGHT BACK EXPRESS KICK OFF, American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society asked Kelly to be the national spokesman for the launch of a cross country bus tour aiming to make the fight against cancer a major issue during the election season. It kicked-off in Cleveland Ohio and Kelly was on hand to share his sentiments about the importance of people coming together to advance the cause of cancer research and support for the millions of Americans that confront the illness. The cause is especially close to home for Kelly because his mother is a cancer survivor. He and all the people in attendance signed the bus that will be traveling across the country.

May 2007 to May 2008, Up to and winning the World Middleweight Crown

This Blog will pick up from May 2008. The "Videos" section has clips of Kelly's historic Championship win. On September 29, 2007, Kelly KO'ed the undefeated Champion Jermain Taylor for the title and beat him in the re-match February 16, 2008. In fall 2007 Kelly was a special guest of Jim Tressel and the Buckeyes, Travis Hafner and the Indians, Coach Romeo Crennel and the Browns, and LeBron James and the Cavs -all documented in the "Photos" section. Kelly has been involved with charities since his amateur days but once he won the title he was able to raise significant funds for numerous charities.

May 25, 2007. Kelly Co-Hosts ESPN's Friday Night Fights

6 days after Kelly engaged in an all out war with Edison Miranda to claim the Undisputed #1 ranking in the Middleweight Division he's on the air with Brian Kenney to discuss his 7 year undefeated career and also to analyze the boxing matches of that night's fighters. He and Brian also look back at a few of the great boxers that came out of Youngstown with video clips of Ray Mancini, Earnie Shavers, Jeff Lampkin and Harry Arroyo.
